about me

Hi, my name is Ava. I’m a writer, a matchmaker, and (on special occasions!) a coach.

Everything I do stems from an obsessive interest in why people are the way they are, what makes relationships good or bad, and how and why people change. I’ve been thinking about this and nothing else all my life. Thanks to the internet, I get to make it my work.

I went to Penn, dropped out, worked in tech for a few years, and started writing full-time when I was 23. For me, the people I love are my vocation. I think friendships are the most common path to fulfilling romantic relationships, meaningful work, and just general happiness.

I’ve been writing my Substack for a long time.

Three posts that really represent me: The Friendship Theory of Everythingstaying close even after a breakup, and why the essence of love is annoyance.

Some things I think about a lot:

  • how to know when to stay and when to go
  • how to use the internet to make your life better instead of worse
  • related: how to use the internet to meet the people you love
  • how to work with your emotions instead of against them
  • related: how to access your intuition and use it make better choices
  • how to unblock yourself when you’re feeling stuck

I’m a cerebral person with very big emotions. For most of my life, I intellectualized my feelings and numbed out. But everything in my life only fell in place once I started integrating my emotions and using them as a source of truth. If you’re smart and you’re not happy, there’s a good chance you’re disassociated from your feelings in a way where you’re unable to make the right choices about love and work. I hope to help you with that.
